Genbu = North = Winter
Seryuu (sp?) = East = Spring
Suzaku = South = Summer
Ch'i rin/Byakko = West = Autumn
Note: I read somewhere (I'll have to find it again) That the Ch'i rin - Eastern version of a the Unicorn, except it's king of beasts and resembles...well, I'm not quite sure - was the western guardian and a symbol of purity and peace but was in time replaced by Byakko a white tiger.
Sort of like in some asian countries Rabbit and Cat share the same space on the chinese calendar.
