In the Kansai area, some people observe Setsubun by eating an uncut sushi roll (maki-zushi) while facing towards the "lucky direction". The direction you face depends upon the zodiac sign of the year.

2004 is the year of the Green Wood Monkey. According to Feng Shui, this year "the Southwest will require a string of six metal coins to be placed in the active areas of your work and home, particularly if this is the location of the master bedroom or main entrance. Do not sit with your back against due South, especially whilst you’re working. It’s also advisable to not carry out large-scale construction work in the Southwest for the coming year, as this is the location of the Grand Duke. Should your home face Southwest, place a Dragon Tortoise facing in this direction."

I have no idea which direction we should face this year when eating maki-zushi, but if you click on Sanja Takusen you can find out what the Oracle of the Three Deities has in store for you this Spring!

    Gokouun o inorimasu! Good luck!
