Kalimèra sas!
On one of the journeys to the Greek archipelago I bought a recording of Bysantine orthodox music. Probably it is a common CD which is sold to tourists, it has a text label at the bottom of the back cover "PAN-MI ETAIREIA TOYRISTIKWN EKADOSEWN".
There are 18 different hymns on it:
1) KATEFTHINTHITO
2) MI APOSTREPSIS
3) EK NIKTOS ORTHRIZI
4) ALLILOUIA
5) IDOU O NIMFIOS
6) ERCHOMENOS O KYRIOS
7) EPI XILOU VLEPOUSA
8) EXEDISAN ME
9) I ZOI EN TAFO
10)AXION ESTI
11)E GENEE PASE
12)TON KYRION IMNITE
13)ANASTA O THEOS
14)ANASTASEOS IMERA
15)O ANGELOS EVOA
16)E MIROFORE GINEKES
17)ANASTASEOS IMERA
18)TON SINANARHON LOGON
- It is clear that the musical scale is not the diatonic scale we are used to in our modern times. It is an older tonality in use. I bet there are large volumes of studies made on the subject, but I have only one book in my possession which delas with Greek music, and it goes back to the Pythagorean scales.
