For me, the Winds of Okinawa blow strong from the past to the present and far, far into the future. It IS a mystical place where a simple life leads to a long life.
I have had the honor of living in this wonderous place for two years. The true spirit of the Ryukyu Islands are far more near to paradise than shown in the movie "The Karate Kid II". The has a laid back attitude and the islands host people who are among the longest living.
When I came back stateside again I came across a book, at the university I attended, which detailed the history and culture of Okinawa. I do plan on finding the title the next time I go back to visit again. One myth told of the coral reefs being stopping places for the dead on the way to heaven. Another told of the star sand found on the outlying island.
