Caileadair and I were talking yesterday and it brought forward two books there were used at university in the Writer's Masters Course. Nathalie Goldberg's "Writing Down the Bones" and the "Wild Mind" were used exclusively in this interesting course taught by a true hippy professor who definately had taken one toke too many in the '60s ;) It was a good course though AND it brings to the front the question of how do you start writing?
Editorial Review from Amazon
Wherein we discover that many of the "rules" for good writing and good sex are the same: Keep your hand moving, lose control, and don't think. Goldberg brings a touch of both Zen and well... *eroticism* to her writing practice, the latter in exercises and anecdotes designed to ease you into your body, your whole spirit, while you create, the former in being where you are, working with what you have, and writing from the moment.
The phrase the comes to mind here is....don't think. That was the hardest obstacle for me to overcome....well, we won't say when I took the course ;).
Has anyone else read the book? Here is the Amazon Link if anyone is interested: Writing Down the Bones
So, with that said, I've created a new thread in the Tomes called the Bone Yard. Once I find my old dog-eared copy of the book OR get off my ample rear-end to go get another, I'll be posting bits from the book (so if y'all want to follow along *hint, hint, chuckle*) and running free-form writing exercises.
Anyone game??
