    I think we are talking about "some" Church structures and not Christianity as a whole. Of course common folks got the sermons of the local parrish priests; that doesn't mean that they would behave like "in the book" (we can trust people to that!) but I suppose the notion of sin and culpability became stronger. We can see now the Original Sin as a myth, but in my childhood, it was told as a true story.
