This subject has obviously loosened up some emotions in some people. I can see both sides of the argument, as both has merits and pitfalls as well. I do agree that it is a good idea to get people interested in medieval history through the movies. Unfortunately, our modern culture is very anti-books, and very pro-movies. It would be good for everyone to go to school for this subject, like Gyrth, but that obviously is not going to happen. So it is important to try and get people into this history in other ways.
But, it is also very dangerous to say that something is the truth, when one cannot clearly prove that it is. I did not know that the movie was trying to claim that this is the absolute truth. Yes, the Sarmatian cavalry idea is fairly absurd. Absurd may be too strong a word, but there is no evidence for it during this time period, as the chief heatedly pointed out. He may be right though is stating that now many people will think that they know the truth, but it really is not the truth. But it is a step.
So it comes down to this quesiton. "Is getting people involved in history worth running the risk of getting them involved in wrong or false history?"
