Anyone who has studied the subject knows that the Battle of Hastings was a monumental event in English history. In Anglo-Saxon history, the Battle of Hastings is the most climatic and influential on the history of England. What was the second most "important" or influential battle in Anglo-Saxon history? Brunanburh is my choice. The northern Kings would have beat back the growing power of the West Saxon dynasty if they would have been victorious. Maldon is also a very important event.
