    Yes, there have been some more recent works published on Sparta that weren't written by Cartledge.

    While I haven't included dates, publishers and ISBNS, all are easy to find. Here are some of my favorites:

    Anton Powell and Stephen Hodkinson, Sparta: Beyond the Mirage.

    Stephen Hodkinson, Property and Wealth in Classical Sparta.

    Anton Powell and Stephen Hodkinson, Sparta: New Perspectives.

    Michael Whitby, Sparta

    Sarah B. Pomeroy, Spartan Women

    The main reason I recommend these works is that they examine Sparta in a new light and don't fall into some of the pitfalls that have consumed Cartledge. I have a more thorough collection of both citations and those available at amazon.com:
