Nefertiti is an historic figure which fascinates many. A few years ago I visited the Aegyptishes Museum in Berlin and was amazed to see the famous bust of her which has had the world in its thrall since the day it was discovered. Seeing it 'alive' instead of a photo made quite a difference. Never had I seen something more graceful - and pitiful.
For all the photos depict her from one side only. When you stand in front of the bust you see that she is one-eyed. The sculptor had been unable to complete the order for one reason or another.
It can be almost a harrowing experience if you donīt know it beforehand. Even if I did, I felt somehow sorry for her. Behind that bust was a real, live, warm woman and personally I have no doubt that she was quite amazing and quite strong in her own right. Women who survived six childbirths in ancient Egypt tended to be just that.
I think it would be very interesting to take a look at what history has to say about her. Iīm sure there is a plethora of sources which range very widely in their opinions.
