Yes, Breddelwyn! It has been years since I read the Evangeline Walton series too, but I remember how widely read it was at the time. Her books revived interest in the Mabinogion for awhile. When I think of the "Mab" I think of Evangeline Walton as sort of a modern-day Lady Charlotte Guest, although obviously Walton is a mere shadow compared the the intellectual stature of Guest.

Lady Charlotte Guest was the writer who, with the encouragement of many other notable scholars and help from the Welsh bard John Jones Tegid, put together an English translation of the Mabinogion from medieval Welsh manuscripts and brought this amazing body of literature out of the dim, dusty past and into Victorian parlors. Lady Guest was an amazing woman for her time, and HERE is a link to an excellent web page that tells about her life and work.

Although Lady Guest is largely credited with "writing" the Mabinogion, and she is appreciated by many, the accuracy of the translation leaves much to be desired in some cases. Read this page for one view of this.

Whether you prefer the popular version by Lady Guest (which you can buy at Wal-Mart!) or the purist's version, it is still an incredibly beautiful set of tales that still speaks to us through the mists of antiquity.
