Hi all,
I am new to this site and to this group in particular but the Academy just seemed to be the one more fitting to my interests and wants.
I have an avid interest in military History and recently in ancient times. I have been a follower of Greek soldiery for some time, though in a amateurish way. It was Pressfields 'Gates of Fire'that got me hooked a bit more and i have since read some of Manfredi's Alexander novels.
I have stummbled across this site and am really pleased i have done so as it may be a chance to increase my knowledge of the ancients on a more solid basis than from novels that by definition have writers liecence to deviate from the historical truth.
My main areas of research at first are Xenophon,Epaminondas and more importantly Philip II of Macedon who i believe to be a major contender for one of the greats of Ancient Greece. For too long he has been over shadowed by his son Alexander, yet in many respects(imo) he was by far the more rounded and able of 'Kings'.
I look foward to learning much.
Xenophon.
