    "The cover stone from one of these graves, that of George Watson (died 1810), has been set against the inner face of the north wall; it bears an epigram in Latin by Lord Byron.

    At the beginning of December 1834, King Otho entered Athens, the newly established capital of his kingdom; he was greeted by the local clergy with a te deum in the Church of St. George. This was the last occasion on which the building was used as a church. Thereafter it served as a local museum until the excavation of the 1930's."
