Ahh, that sounds strikingly familiar to my archaeological studies, of which I have just finished my mid-term and research paper of.
Anyways, I am curious how much of an extent this survey took into bronze age Sparta, Lacaedomia (excuse the spelling......it's been a while). An archaeologist, by the name of William Rathje, I believe, has been trying to link the bronze age palace to the classical polis we know as Sparta today. The Spartans claimed lineage from that kingdom, which happened to be the home of king Menelaus and his wife Helen, which they used to justify the beauty of their women. Current studies have shown, though, that there is no linkage between the two civilizations. The primary evidence being that the classical Spartans were of Dorian origin, who invaded Greece during the 1200's, proving that the two are of different origins. Still, Rathje is hoping to find some lineage. He is testing out a hypothesis that the Dorians were actually integrated with the Lacaedomians before the coming of the Dark Age. Personally, I think his chances of proving that are as good as proving that UFO's created the pyramids (contact an Egyptian scribe to solidify that concept).
