I agree, Nikolaos, that would be an excellent thought for a future debate. I do believe Lycurgus should be given credit as a philosopher as well as a leader. After all, he did establish the Spartan system we are familiar with, and incorporated a new mindset into his citizens that lasted for nearly 300 years. And if the "new" Spartan polis was established at around 650 BC, then you could consider Lycurgus the first(!) known Greek philosopher whose ideas influenced a polis, if there were no other known philosophers during his time, which I believe there weren't. Lycurgus should be given some more of the spotlight that others, like Socrates, Aristotle and Diogenes, have.
