Paullus (who is active in our sister site, Aedes Divi Julii concerning Julius Caesar's life and times) asked if a topic for the Second Triumvirate could be created there. It may be my own personal twitch, but to me, a whole new chapter in Roman history began, not ended, with Caesar's death. In his peculiar way, Caesar was a conservative in many ways - the unfettered bloodletting and brutality of the Second Triumvirate, in which all three Triumvirs set new standards for both cruelty and ambition, was all too overt for the older Caesar's taste. Therefore placing the topic in Caesar's corner didn't seem expansive enough, methinks.
In particular, in this period was the chrysalis of Augustus Caesar and the later Emperors. You can watch Octavian learning, step by step, what worked and what didn't in his drive to be First Citizen of Rome without appearing to be so. Since the post-Ides period is so critical to his later career, it appears more appropriate to put this topic in Pax Romana rather than Aedes (although, heaven knows, it was anything but peaceful while it lasted).
So, Paullus, here is your topic for discussion - and a fertile one it is!
