    On the Friday before the Sunday before Lughnasadh, thousands of pilgrims climb a hill known as St. Patrick's Mound. But there is a pre-Christian tradition behind this. The Dindsenchas tell of the legend of Mag Slecht. On the Plain of Genuflection in County Cavan, Ireland, there was a golden statue of the old god Crom Dubh and eleven other stone figures around it. People went there and prayed to Crom Dubh for a good harvest of corn, milk, and protection from harm. ...

    "Hurry, don't be late…. " She is a little on the late side indeed.. the trip from her Alpine homelands had been long but she had set her mind on paying a visit to her very distant relatives on the Emerald Island and to share their festival with them.

    A small ear of spelt that travelled with her all the way is tucked tight under her arm as she quickly makes headway. That climb is an easy one for her, her legs are strong, used to much steeper mountain paths, and so she is not at all exhausted when she reaches the top.. she joins the procession exactly when the blow of the horn is heard for the first time.

    Fascinated by the special atmosphere and the strong vibrations of the place she watches the actions of the Druid intently. She does not understand every single word of this unfamiliar language but it is not really necessary, the meaning conveys beyond the words… Now she wonders what is going to happen next…
