Hey Guys
This group attracted my attention because I do quite a lot of 3D-modelling. I started about five years ago, when I came across all these beautiful pics on the web and I thought: hey I want to be able to do the same. So I went looking what they were made with and I found this program for free: POV-Ray. I've worked with that one a long time and the major good thing about it is I think that it doesn't work with meshes. A sphere really is a sphere and not a bunch of triangles.
I also found terragen. It's a good program if u don't want much. It's got a few nasty little bugs. For example when you've got a watersurface with some rocks and you want to use those rocks as a silhouette against the setting sun, that very sun shines through under the rocks, making a strange bright line at their bottom. Also if u have the camera close to the ground, you can see the edges of the meshes.
Currently I'm working with Maya aswell. It's a fab program. I could get it very cheap with a student's license.
Anyone else who uses POV-Ray and/or Maya overhere?
Have a look at my

to see some of the work I've done in POV-Ray and Terragen.
