    The once sun-drenched beaches
filled with sounds of laughter and life
              now shine like hand-blown crystal.

    The cold winter breezes
         rip apart last summer’s shore
              with hurricane force
                   from the frozen Caribbean Sea.

    The empty desert ships
        stand forever grounded in pandemonium
defenseless destroyers at last in silent peace.

    The eerie moonless glow
         reflects off immense polis craters
              in memory of fireworks
                   that brightened the night
                        and darkened the day.

    The tenement dwellers
         crawl though able to fly
              alas, without fear of harm.
