When I first started to read the Falco series, I was a bit put off by the language. I can't say whether the dialogue was a bit too breezy or the phrasing was a bit too British, but it seemed too anachronistic for a novel set in ancient Rome. It didn't take me long to get past that notion, and now I find it difficult to pinpoint exactly what made me think so. Did anyone else have that sensation?
