“Interesting? How many in your family were Consuls? All I can say is that my lineage is of rich Equestrians.”
Gnaeus had almost replied until Lucilia walked in and observed Lepidus carefully. He had noticed his expression and smiled on the inside. He figured it was a good thing she had shown up but pushed the thought aside.
"Ah... where wer- ah yes. I'm afraid we haven't had too many members in Consulship, at least, as far as I know. We've had some here and there of course. Our family did however, actually, a Lucilius Maximus like myself along with other cousins did play a role in the founding of the Republic. It's not really well-known, but it happened."
Gnaeus Lucilius stopped to drink a cup of wine and then answered some more of Lepidus' questions. "You should have, he sits next to me often. My plans... well, seeing how this blasted war interrupted my Quaestorship, I'm running for the position once more so that I can actually do my job! I doubt I'll be seeing any Quaestor-like work to do this year at all! I expect the march on the Germans to take some time. So, what about you, my friend?"
Lucilius just listened the whole time and then suddenly spoke up. "Gnaeus had better be succesful or he'd wish he had died fighting the Germans." Her brother just smiles at her. She becomes silent once more obviously in thought about something and she looks at the wine flask near Lepidus. "Would you mind handing me that? These new slaves give me barely any!" Her mood had changed from the shyness she had when she had just walked in. She was still well-mannered but she had a proud air about her.
"If only women oould join the legions... Lucilius could probably defeat the entire horde by herself. You should probably just go ahead and hand her the whole bottle. She drinks more wine than I do! She's the only woman I know who practices swordplay. Bugged me to death to teach her how, and I admit, she isn't that bad. Beat me on several occasions but my skills were rusty at the time."
