Brutus listened with intent and found some small measure of potency from Cicero’s statement, until previously he had felt, as did most of the senate, somewhat powerless. Able to act with Caesar’s will but never against it. He was about to reply when Lucius walked in and stood ready to speak.
Brutus tactfully excused himself and walked over to the teenage boy,
“Yes. What is it?” Lucius spoke quietly,
“Your mother has sent a messenger ahead and will arrive in ten minutes.” Brutus thanked the boy and then walked back to Cicero,
“Dear friend, my mother is stopping by for an impromptu visit. I hate to have to ask you to leave so soon, but I am afraid I must.”
