As it is my understanding, that Rogue Spyware is the greatest single current threat to security,( which is why AVG now offers it in their anti-virus program) should we not have an alert thread on this?
In particular Adware agent BN, caused a bluescreen leading to a total hard drive failure, and, I kill these things as a second source of income.
In fact it was a Microsoft shared desk session, wherein their techs deleted vital registry keys in order to kill it, that lead to the screen of death.
Some people think they are protected but that is not so.
I had top anti-spyware in place, both Webroot Spysweeper and Spyware Doctor failed to even contain this particular one.
Though I've seen others, like Trojan Downloader ZLOB that I had removed from my neighbors computer, completely shred the Mcafee dlls.( They had set up a special site to remove their program, because it could not even be uninstalled by conventional means.)
And don't get me started on Symantec\Norton, the only computer it will protect is one that is unplugged.
It used to be that you only picked these things up on bad sites, but that is just not so anymore. There is too much money in knowing the exact habits of web surfers. To that end keyloggers and password manager theft is on the rise, as well as spambot mailers.
Anyway I thought a warning thread here about spyware might be useful, just my opinion.
