Droll Tellers
Though technically not legends, Droll Tellers bear mentioning because in Cornish tradition, they were the gifted storytellers who preserved Cornish lore. They travelled to remote areas and paid for their food and lodgings with stories and gossip and were also in great demand during feasts and other special occasions. Droll Tellers would often modify and embellish tales with local details to suit their audience, which kept Cornish lore alive, while maintaining its essence.
Dead Hands
There is a rather gruesome Cornish superstition that the dead hand of a felon or suicide has healing properties and that touching it gains all but relatives the strength of the departed.
Dozmary Pool
Mysterious Dozmary Pool, a natural moorland lake south of Bolventor on Bodmin Moor, is steeped in Cornish lore. The pool said to be bottomless with a whirlpool at its centre. In Arthurial lore, the Lady of the Lake's hand emerged from the pool and caught Excalibur when Sir Bedivere cast it into Dozmary Pool. Another Cornish tale tells of an evil devil's disciple who was doomed to spend eternity bailing out its endless waters.
