The thistles are going to seed now and sunflowers are starting to bloom, drawing flocks of little yellow finches to the Haven of the Seventh Swan. As I enjoy a quiet evening walk, watching for birds, I hear the brisk tat-tat-tat-tat of a woodpecker at work somewhere nearby. Picus is still in the grove, a good omen for summer. Around a turn in the path, I catch a pair of blackbirds fighting over a fat, juicy grub. No one goes hungry this year!
