The Republic Reborn
The Gracchi, Champions of the Plebs, lie dead. Marius, Sulla, the great names of known history shall never come to prominence here. Will you take their role in history?

The three friends of Lucius Brutus, his advisor Servilius Ahala, his economic advisor Iuventius Dives and that geeky laywer he had engaged some years back when Lucius was trying to win over parts of his wealth from his eager relatives, Anneus Labeo, were sitting in their seats from the initiation of the Races up to the third round; they were drinking and laughing, commenting on recent events and other gossips. Ahala joked to his companions about the Senate processions, about the Tribunes, about the courts. It was a relaxing afternoon for the three friends, relaxing after a good day's work.

At the first corner of the third round though, Iuventius Dives stands up as if he was hit from Jupiter's thunderbolt. With excitement he witnesses as their team, the Fervens Rotae, are gaining on Tribune Gallus's team. The people's cheering becomes stronger by the second as the two charioteers approaching the second turn of the Circus, galloping with fury to outdo each other. But then a bang is heard; the whole crowd loses its breath as it sees the two chariots practically flying forwards, sensing the imminent crash of the chariots as they are reaching the ground again. The three men are on their toes, trying to see what is happening, their view blocked by the bodies of the people standing to do exactly the same thing. Nothing is heard, still the crowd is breathless from the display; Ahala shakes his head, saying to his companions: "Well boys, that's some good 50,000 denarii thrown into the river!", believing that the crowd is silent because of both teams having their chariots destroyed and their charioteer's body removed... The seconds are passing as slow as if they were several hours and still nothing is heard.

Suddenly, the crowd goes mad! Screaming and cheering once again with renewed strength, the Plebes are chanting the name of Brutus's team. What has happened? Dives asks a man sitting in the row above him and he explains the combat witnessed by the people. As the crowd is sitting again, the view is unblocked for the three men who see their team struggling with Gallus's charioteer for supremachy. They are hitting each other with fierce determination, trying to throw each other off their chariot, to disrupt their horses sprint - anything for the win. As the teams are reaching straight line again, Brutus's charioteer is making a dangerous maneuver to the right, pushing Gallus's chariot against the inside wall. The People go crazy once again, approaching their seats end to see Gallus's team crush on the walls. However, the man has some sense in him and cedes the victory to Brutus's charioteer with a sigh of anger that is heard in the first few rows.

"What a race!" Anneus Labeo exclaims.
