The oldest known European fighting text is an anonymous German sword and buckler manual (MS I.33) produced around c. 1295. Its watercolor pages feature a series of images of a monk and his partner performing various attacks and counter attacks and has recently come to be more appreciated as a source for study of historical European martial arts. Is that considered fencing?

I did find this though: The Germans had fine schools and some of the oldest existant fencing manuals. I couldn't find the name though is it Royal Armouries MS I.33 or Tower Fechtbuch?

Or am I wrong on both accounts. If the oldest fencing manual is in German I could probably read it to some very small extent but if I could find a translated version I would love to add it to my collection.
