There is a two week excavation currently going on at Stonehenge and the focus is on the bluestones. The last dig on the site was in 1964. Samples are being taken from the ground where the earliest of all the stones were set up. These samples will be compared with bluestones from Wales to determine whether that was where the Stonehenge bluestones came from. More testing should reveal how long ago the bluestones were put into place. A lot of artifacts have been found already, including Roman ceramics, stone hammers and a fragment of Beaker era pottery.
