I feel the situation in Illyricum will become dire if we do not act fast.
Illyricum is of critical importance to this Republic. It lies aside our Eastern Italian cities like a wife aside her husband as he sleeps. There is but the narrowest of seas between our front doors and the enemies of Rome. Would you have the kings forces come knocking on the doors of your neighbours? peeking through the windows of your very houses?
This threat cannot be understated and the longer we sit here without acting, then the Barbarian forces will only grow stronger and stronger. Our fathers told us of the terror of Cannae and the humiliation to Rome. How will you, as sons, as sons of Rome tell your own children of this event? I for one would like to say we acted with the strength and speed of true Romans. We did not let this upstart run riot through our backyard, but crushed him most expediently. Senators I urge you to use listen to the words of our noble ancestors. To vision the horrors of what might be, and the glory of what should be.
Send me as Quaestor to Illyricum, but with soldiers at my side. The soldiers of Rome, to take back what belongs to Rome. Send as many forces as can be found. Nay, as many forces as we can allow, since all men will be clammoring to be sent to Illyricum on this day, and to win back Romes glory!
