Kate’s eyes continued to glimmer because she was having the time of her life. No bodyguards and no fortune hunters. It was if the night had been made for her. The lovely Grand Duchess couldn’t believe how the song about Paris had followed wherever she went with Simon.

Now, she was to watch a rehearsal of the Follies Bergère. What other magic would happen that nice. Perhaps she’d be taken to a tiny café in a neighborhood to which she had never been before. More interesting, she might just have her first real kiss.

Paris seemed new to her and full of magic. She would take a bicycle ride every day from now. Perhaps she could feel the delights on her own. Did Boris know how to ride ? If not, she’d just go on her own. The idea of shopping in stores instead of having people come to her brightened her eyes. Maybe she’d come to love the city.

Simon’s words suddenly came to her. If he knew Paris as he claimed, then he would be a perfect guide. Besides, she’d never met a rogue or had so much fun before. Being a Russian, she was familiar with broken hearts. Then again, to be Russian, one had to be used to melancholy. She’d do what she could to be cheering.

With that thought, she took Simon’s arm and allowed herself to be seated where she could hear everything. What would the Follies be like ?

“Later dinner ? I would love ‘A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread, and Thou.’”
