First I must say how happy I am to be here. I love cheese!!
Second, I carefully considered my first post to this very special group. I wanted it to be something classy and at the same time cheesy.
The name Cosimo Cavallaro immediately sprang to mind. I saw this artist in action a few years ago on one of the Discovery channels or maybe it was A&E before they devolved into a cheesy reality teevee station. I was impressed by his technique and artistic flair.
Yes, Cavallaro creates art in the medium of CHEESE.
He does use other mediums, from photography to large steel sculptures (Knot). His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the world. But his newest medium is cheese and he has created several works - Room 114, Twiggy in Cheese, and Cheese House Wyoming. He also creates art using candy (Candy Chair and the controversial Chocolate Jesus), and rubber (Inflatable Piano).
His cheese installations have attracted features in hundreds of media outlets throughout the world including the New York Times, Contemporary Visual Arts Magazine, CNN, Global Japan Television, People Magazine, BBC, Harpers, the Associated Press, CBC and the Fox BNews Channel.
I feel that his cheese artworks, especially, gloriously fulfill the intent of his creative expressions - in his own words: "the struggle between need and desire; the known and unknown; the warm security of the womb and the chill uncertainty of the world."
