    Now we know. Or at least according to this article I read on Yahoo news. To sum it up, indigo, copal incense and palygorskite were key ingredients in the extremely durable turquoise hued paint, which was also used on pottery, murals and statues. "Maya blue" was not only the symbol of the rain god and healing but the chemistry of it was important as well.
