Since GRAAL has begun or shortly will, I thought this topic would be very fitting. Even though I do not claim or acknowledge being a scholoar of any sorts, I cannot without a doubt read the Arthur tales and take it as what is was originally wirtten as, whether it be new or old.

The Mabinogion was a collection of stories compiled by Lady Chartlotte. Though that doesn't mean she just collected them together and put them together, no she edited some of them to fit better into the language and also fit her beliefs. Even though they are some of the earliest dated stories, they are not early enough to escape being changed, as sadly many if not all stories have been in Celtic culture.

What do you all think of this?

Do you take the Tales of Arthur as truelly Celtic? Even the early versions?

What morals or values or any such detail doesn't seem to seem Celtic.

For example, some of the worst ways to ruin the stories are translating them .... As time went one the language usage changed, so instea dof brute langauge of the Celts, it would be romantic. This distorts the story becuase it changes how the people act and what they say, so instead of saing "Hurry, we must go" a passage my say "Quickly, we hastily must part from this dretched place." Just an example mind you.

    Anyone wish to discuss this?
