Chestnuts are delicious to eat, raw or roasted. Called ti-li by the Tsalagi, ground chestnuts formed the basis for gadu ti-li, a bread which was a winter staple. Tea made from chestnut leaves was a remedy for coughs and had a calming effect on the nerves.
