Sanctuary of Artemis

Ecclesian~I am the caretaker of the Sanctuary of Artemis on Delos.

ARTEMIS assisted her mother with the birth of her brother.

In Greek ledgend Artemis was an Olympic goddess, a virgin huntress: daughter of Zeus and Leto, the twin older sister of Apollo. Born on Delos she is sometimes called Delia. She is also called Phoebe. As a goddess of the wild she was a forrest dweller and a guardian as well as a huntress of wild animals. She has the strain of the avenger in all her ledgends. All of her attendants were virgins. Those who lost their chastity were severely punished. The cypress was sacred to her. The stag and hound, and bear and boar, were special to her. Besides being a huntress she was protective of women. As complementary to Apollo she was the goddess of the moon, (The Pleiades are her attendants) and of the night. In the Greek popular religion her worship was widespread.
