Casa del Centenario
Pompeiian home of Pompeius Tullius Servilius
It is a residence constructed by jointing three houses. It is a large house with two a double atrium. The floors are covered with mosaics and the walls are decorated with paintings of theatrical scenes. These paintings are also found in oeci, the adjoining rooms to the tablinum. The background colour of right atrium is black, and the background colour of the left atrium (the Toscan atrium) is white. The walls of the tablinum are decorated with yellow wood panelling with the emblems of Juno, Apollo and Minerva. Close to the pool in the courtyard on the north side, which is enclosed by two rows of columns, is a copy of the beautiful "Satyr with goatskin". In the background of the courtyard is a beautiful nymph grotto with a mosaic fountain covered with images of birds, pools and animals. In the lower part of the house there are an other atrium with a lararium, a bath-room and some rooms, of which one is painted with three wood panellings on a black background.
