The Garrison and Town of Pi'ramesse
![]() There is a large garrison, both for city defense and for gathering troops for one or other of the Ramissid pharaohs' military engagements. Frequent displays of military might stir the ambitions and support of the citizenry.
On the outskirts of town, and in those places where there are no docks directly providing access to the Nile to the townspeople, there
are rich fertile farmlands, swept to a great distance in this flat delta land, by the yearly innudations of the Nile. The town proper is set back aways from the Nile, because yearly re-building can be so annoying...
Construction workers live in temporary encampments on the outskirts of Pi-rameses, called in for any number of Palace or temple upgrades.
![]() Large barges are maintained by the Pharaoh, both for ceremonial tours and for military purposes. Envoys constantly come and go, to all parts of the Two Lands, and to foreign potentates. Many musicians and dancers live here, called on to entertain both at royal or noble functions, or to provide amusements for the men of the garrison. Needless to say there is a large supporting servant class. The garrison itself contains bunked areas for the common fighters, with increasingly more private quarters for the commanding officers. A large practice field is available for the mandatory drills. A polished infrastructure of scribes and beaurocrats, all of whom live in town, keep the complicated machineries of state oiled.
