The Fairhair Dynasty and Unification of Norway

Prior to the eighth century AD Norway was divided up in petty kingdoms. The Vestfold area was very active and the most poltically advanced area of what would become Norway.

Around 800 AD the area came under Danish control. Danish influence soon declined however, under the many disputes that arose around succession.

Around 900 AD the King of The Vestfold, Haraldr Fairhair was successful in winning control of much of Norway at the battle of Hafrsfjord. Due to this achievement Haraldr Fairhair is credited with being the founder of the Norwegian kingdom.

Haraldr reigned for fifty years and was succeded by his son Erikir Bloodaxe around 930 AD. Erikir was driven off the throne by his younger brother Hakon the Good.

Erikir Bloodaxe went into to exile where he earned a fearsome reputation as a Viking leader. In 948 AD and again in 954 AD Erikir served as King of York.

Hakon the Good was killed by Erikir Bloodaxe\'s son Haraldr gráfeldr (GreyCloak) around 960 AD. Haraldr gráfeldr became King of Norway but spent most of h
is reign trying to gain control over Trondelag and was eventually killed fighting against an alliance of the Jarl Hakon of Hal?ir and Svein Forkbeard.

The Jarls returned Norway to Danish rule. Jarl Hakon remained the most powerful man in Norway until 995 AD when Olaf Tryggvason, a grandson of Haraldr Fairhair, who had won much fame and wealth as a Viking leader put Jarl Hakon to flight and established himself as King of Norway.

Olaf ruled for only five years before being killed at the battle of Svold in an alliance between Svein Forkbeard and Jarl Erikir of Hla?ir. Svein and Erikir divided rule of Norway between them but not long after Norway became unified again.

I wish he would just go away. Go to someone else\'s house tonight. Drink someone else\'s mead. How do I know what Loki really looks like? Well.... he is not such a smart trickster...... that even I a mere mortal cannot see through his thin veil of disguise und lå. Besides all the mead disappears mysteriously when Loki has been about. My opinion is well known that all the gods are flawed but in Loki we find all the flaws of all the gods in one place and in the tenfold. To women he tries to appear as an irresistible romantic or as a kindly Großmutter. To men he plays the opposite role.

All one must do is pull up the hair to reveal his pointy ears or notice the blue color of his tongue to know one is being deceived by one of his disguises. He delights mostly in in annoyance, treachery too and sometimes even misery. Tonight he just annoys me. He sitten at the end of my senga like the carrion bird and after blowing the night fire embers out completely, pulls away my reindeer skins. I wake up cold and naked and must get up to restart the fire and as soon as I become warm again he repeats his Spiel. I hear his shrill laughter which stops when I tell him that he manifests himself in images of others because he such an Dummen Jungen inside and out. So, the struggle continues several times each night in my husband Mogh Roith\'s absence.

I do not understand why the dogs do not notice him, perhaps they would tear the Fiese Troll to pieces, so he hides himself from them well enough. My Großmutter tells me he will leave me alone until Mogh Roith gives me little ones at my breast. Großmutter always believes me too independent and she says that I insulted my kinsmen by my handfast to Mogh Roith, a Celt when I had already been promised by my father to the King of the Saxons. She says until children are produced I have much to fear from Loki and my own father. Brrrrrrrr I am so cold again Mach\'ne Fliegel Loki der Schweinehund!

The Creed Living as a Viking Maiden and Warrior

1.You are allowed to hate and love who ever you want.

2.Stand your ground, but stand it alone .

3.Don\'t let others fight for your own belief .

4.Speak your mind but speak it for yourself ,not for others to hear or admire.

5.Be honest in your words and in your deeds and you can never lose yourself and your worth.

You have a duty to our kindred and it is above all loyalty. Another duty is helping the other members our kindred. This could include the simple willingness to give a ride to events, but also on a deeper level to really be there for each other in times of need. Above all you must learn to see beyond the mortal flesh. To live up to the standards the Odin, Vili, and Ve hoped for us. To be their chosen warriors and maidens and not the monsters of their worst nightmares. Each of us holds inside the memory of times ago. Our noblest times of just wars and amazing bravery. Oaths of love and devotion between two lovers and promises never to be broken. Friendships that last forever, brotherhoods that are more than the spoken word.
