The Long House of Metoaka Shenandoah -- [Entrance ] [Courtyard ] [Library ] [Study ]
jpegeagle.JPG My Library is for my historical and academic pursuits. Here you will find the books I have written as well as the books I have acquired for my collection from other citizens -- as soon as there are any. Please feel free to browse! Here you will also find a collection of posts that I have made to historical and academic boards -- again, as soon as I do so. My particular historical interests in the Ancient Americas are the Maya, the Algonquian of the Eastern Seaboard; and the myths and legends of the native peoples, along with any tie-ins these may have to other cultures or myths around the world.

But please ... sit down and let me tell you a bit about myself and why I'm here. Perhaps when you've finished reading what follows, you'll tell me something about yourself and about what you know, as well.

Born in the U.S., I grew up in Central Mexico, so I'm bi-lingual and bi-cultural. My roots in the Americas go back as far as there have been people here and, because of this, I am a bit of a mix of races and nationalities. I'm still researching my background; while I can tell you a little about it, I'm not sure where some of my antecedents originally came from.

My Indian ancestry is primarily Powhattan, while my European forebears were (for the most part) from various parts of the British Isles and Northern France. One branch of my African lineage came to the U.S. from Dahomey (now Benin), via Haiti.

Whether I'm of Aja or Fon blood from Dahomey, I don't know; nor do I know where any other African lineages began. My British provenance is Wales, Scotland, Ireland, the Isle of Man and Northumbria; the French side came from Normandy, Pays-de-la-Loire and Artois (now Pas-de-Calais). Many tribes joined together to become Powhattan Nation. Which of those I trace back to, I have no idea, but I have been told that I'm from the Eagle clan.

Since there was never a Reservation system in Mexico, being Indian in that country is not a thing apart. Many of the people I grew up around spoke Huichól, Nahuatl, Mayan, or Otomí. Beliefs, mores and traditions are a crazy-quilt of ancient and modern, Indian and European, Christian and pantheist -- forming a rich and dynamic tapestry, against which backdrop the business of day-to-day living transpires.

I welcome information of any kind about the ancient cultures of the Americas, and look forward to discussions with the people here at Ancient Worlds. I'm also especially fascinated by the Picts of Scotland, ancient Greece and Egypt, India ... OK: Let's just say I'm interested in the history of all kinds of people and places. The list is long and eclectic.

Now then: How about you?
