Welcome to my Double Atrium & CourtyardHere I conduct my social activities at AncientWorlds and at Rome. You can leave me a message on my personal message board or take a look at my friends list. Soon you will be able to check my calendar of events as well. My domus has a double atrium. The floors are covered with mosaics and the walls are decorated with paintings of theatrical scenes. The background colour of right atrium is black, and the background colour of the left atrium (the Toscan atrium) is white. The walls of the tablinium are decorated with yellow wood panelling with the emblems of Juno, Apollo and Minerva.
Close to the pool in the courtyard on the north side, which is enclosed by two rows of columns, is a copy of the beautiful "Satyr with goatskin". In the background of the courtyard is a beautiful nymph grotto with a mosaic fountain covered with images of birds, pools and animals. Mercurius (Pompeius meets Mercurius)One evening a naked man came to my gate
with his cloak over his arm, sandals on his feet,
a staff in his hand, and a helmet on his head.
I said to him: Come in, if you want to!
He came and sat down at the hearth.
I asked him: "What are your name!"
He looked at the gods on my emblems,
I said: "You are as one of them!"
"Yes," he said: "I am Mercurius." He stole the herd of his brother Apollo, And he invented the glow. He is warm with the cloak on his arm. He brings us all warmth, And now he is sitting by my hearth. |
