Pasha was a title prominent under the Turks with origins in Persian and Turkish words signifying \"king\" or \"chief\". Under the Ottomans the title was initially granted solely within the military, denoting generals. Three levels of Pasha existed, and a Pasha would display three, two, or one horse-tails, depending on one\'s rank, while on campaign.
The title was used after the given name of the individual. For example, Kemal Atatürk was first Kemal Pasha.
