This name comes from a range of mountains called the Bakhtiari Mountains in Iran.

The name Bakhtiari is slightly different from our Mesopotamian Family Name of Bahktiari. But, there is a tribal people in southwest Iran with the Bakhtiari name. They were once a nomadic people (some still are to this day), famous for their glorious rugs. This small percentage migrated between their summer quarters (yaylâq) and winter quarters (qishlâq). Today, these people can primarily be found in the provinces of: Lorestan, Khuzestan, Chahar Mahaal, Bakhtiari, and Isfahan.

In mythology, the Bakhtiari consider themselves to be descendants of Fereydun. He was once a legendary hero from the Persian national epic, Shahnameh.
