come to this tiny Caribbean island off the Yucatan Peninsula. for generations, women have been making the pilgrimage to the Temple here, dedicated to goddess Ixchel.

females make these pilgrimages twice in ther lives. the first time a feamle arrives, it is usually as a child, accompanied by her mother. once she has grown into a woman, and has children of her own, she returns again, this time, bringing her daughters with her. and so it goes, from generation to generation.

it is also said that during pirate invasions, Yucatan men moved all the women here for the safety and protection of the Mother Goddess.
