ACTA DIURNA 6th Edition
Farewell to Ye Olde Year, 2006

Every now and then, in putting together the ACTA, we get a metaphor for virtual life online (yes, I AM going to make pompous noises about the "meaning of AW" lol). This edition was a Murphy's Ancient Law Edition (or, as Alerissa mentioned, the "Edition Against All Odds"). We had reporters and editors down with sprained ankles, stuck in snow storms, dealing with computer and Internet crashes, reporters MIA which involved others plunging in to fill the gap - and then yesterday, the whole site goes down! The result? Everyone simply pulled up their ancient stolas and put the edition together. It's not only gorgeous (Alerissa proved, once again, that she is irreplaceable!) but I think it's a fine edition 'against all odds.'

I always get sentimental during the holidays, and this is the is the ninth holiday season I've spent with this lot, either at AncientSites or AncientWorlds (I'm not counting 2001, with AS down and AW not yet reinvented). All over AW, people are creating things to give a little pleasure for holiday gift-giving, greeting, or remembering friends we've come to cherish here in this weird cyberspace spot. It always delights me to see how much of our graphics, stories, and celebrations are shared freely and happily. Like putting together the ACTA, it amazes me that people take time just to do things that will will give pleasure to the rest of us. Virtual life has its occasional downsides, but this, surely, is the upside!

So to every reporter and editor who busted a gut just to make sure you had "all the (AW) news that's fit to print' - here's my glass of Falernian raised to you. To all the old friends, and all the new friends I haven't even met yet. Hope EVERYONE enjoys their holidays, here and at home, and let's spend another year together, OK?

Heraklia Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noël, Io! Io! Saturnalia, and may your Yule be full of blessings. L'chaim from Heraklia, Laurels, Alerissa, and the entire staff of ACTA - and a happy 2007!

Heraklia
