Omamori is Japanese for "honurable protector." They are generally made of paper or fabric and have the name of a temple or shrine on one side, with a blessing inscribed on the other side, but the more valuable ones are made of gold or silver. They are regarded as magic charms and are dedicated to Shinto gods and Buddhists personages. There is aparently no upper limit to the luck, healing and protection Omamari can bring.
