It's the very last day of that 2006 edition of the Lunar festival, and I must say I have very mixed feeling about that. Part of me is quite relieved, for I haven't had a life during those past few weeks. You can easily imagine: running from India to Japan to Indonesia and back, drink sake with people to bring you the latest rumors....er, informations, that's a lot of work (especially drinking enough sake for people to losen up a little)! But on the other, I've enjoyed the very process of doing it and meeting people I had not had the occasion to talk to before. And I can only hope it's been as enjoyable for all of you who've taken the time to stop by and take part to it: while a festival needs people to organize the events, it's the participants who make it successful or not. And to celebrate all our guests, we've decided to throw in a big party tonight.....but before getting into more details about that, let's have a look at the brilliant, both literaly and figuratively, Vasant Panchami!

In honor of the Gods!

I don't know about you, but Indian religious traditions have always confused the hell out of me! Between the great number of Gods, all their avatars, the great epics and all the traditions that succeeded each other, seeing a prominent god falling into desuetude within a few centuries, there's certainly room confusion alright.....Well, while it doesn't aim to teach you everything there's to know about that very subject in ten questions, Feyian's Hindu Gods Quiz certainly is a great introduction, with enough depth to give those already somewhat familiar with it a run for their money! I got 70%, what about you?

Mom always told me....

never to meddle with the Gods's affairs, and she was quite right! It is therefore all the most admirable that our very own Shanti Ashoka obtained for you from the Gods the possibility to mess with their life, so to speak (not permanently, of course!).

How can you do that? Well, quite simple in fact: there is a gallery of the Gods who've graciously allowed us to play with their detiney a little. You just need to let your imagination run wild, write down and post whatever you want them to do. There's only one, very important condition: you must either continue the story given for each of them or write a wholy original story, in which case you must include five magical words. That's what will protect you from the Gods' wrath. And trust me, you don't want to expose yourself to it. Those who have probably have found that experience quite, er, painful.....although none of them has stayed long enough on this earth to testify about it, eek!

Not entirely clear on what it is all about? Want to share with us your story? Please visit this thread.

Very important notice: Apart from the contests, most events will remain open after Lunar has closed its doors. All the quizzes, the Orient image trivia, the Tales from the Misty Mountains and "In a God's Life: Once upon a time in India...." will all be available for your testing/reading/writing pleasure in the months to come!

Wait, there's more!

As you've probably heard by now, in honor of the goddess Saraswati, it is highly recommended that you were yellow during Vasant Panchami. Don't know how to alter your avatar without having to change it? No problem! You'll find two easy and very useful tutorials at Vasant's main thread. Btw, those tutorials will certainly prove useful outside VP....

Not only that, but you'll find links to Vasant's events, and to an article covering the meaning of that colorful celebration, one of the most important and respected in India. And when you'll be weary from this whirlwind of activities, stop at the Kublai Khantina, where you can prop your feat, eat some invigorating hot soup or butter chicken and listen to Indian music. What else could you ask for?

It's party time!

Want to know who killed our honorable magistrate? Discover who's decorated the most beautiful pagoda? Or maybe you just want to relax and have some good ol' fun before this festival draws to an end? Well, you're all cordially invited to our end of festival party, starting 17.00 AWT, at the Kublai Khantina. The results to the various contests will be made public and the awards handed before we all get to celebrate together the New Year. We hope you'll all come for that last event of this 2006 Lunar Festival.

That's it for 2006!We wish you all a happy new year, and see you in 2007 for a new edition of the Lunar festival!
