Site wide Trivia Contest
For the third year in a row, we offer the Site-Wide Trivia Contest for your delectation. Trivia contests are always a hoot, and for some reason the Yank Labor Day holiday (first weekend in September) has seen a variety of prior contests ("the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat.") This year's Trivia Spectacular takes the theme of "Harvest" celebrations throughout the ancient world. If you want to play individually or on a team,
sign up here! As usual, the contest itself will be held on the
Trivia thread under "AncientWorlds Celebrations," starting at 6:30 PM sharp on Sunday, September 4th. That's AW time - which means, 5:30 PM Central, 4:30 PM Mountain, 3:30 PM in California. And hopefully, it's not so late but that our European allies can join in as well!
Good luck to the contestants, and you've got plenty of bars to go to if you lose!
GOLDFEST '05: "Magical Mystery Tour"
AncientWorlds is known for its site-wide celebrations, but this fall we'll be varying the format somewhat. Rather than both a spring and fall festival involving all eight worlds at once (a lot of fun, but rather like those "If this is Tuesday, this must be Belgium" tours), the Scribal Council has determined to make a unified effort involving four worlds this fall, four worlds next spring.
Participating in this fall's Goldfest celebrations (subtitled "Magical Mystery Tour," and magic is the key word!) are Germania, Mesopotamia, The Orient and Hellas.. Anyone who wants to be involved in planning or creating for this year's Goldfest, contact any of the scribes listed above. We're always glad to have extra hands!
A complete report on festival events will be in next month's ACTA "Special Edition" for the festival, but it will likely occur in mid-to-late October over a four-day span, and if you thought "Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore!" you wouldn't be far from some of the ideas being kicked around. Stay tuned!
The worlds of The Americas, Celtia, Egypt and Rome will thus be relieved of all care until Springfest '06, and can participate like mad as mere relaxed tourists come October.
AncientWorld Gems
Throughout the summer, our world scribes have been shuffling through ancient pages, years-old events, and our former festivals, looking for the kinds of "one of a kind" spectacular tours and special events that have, over the years, won kudoes from our members for creativity and historicity. These links will soon be permanently displayed on our home page under the AW GEMS thread, with special events for all eight worlds: but with the freedom to note and nominate new events for inclusion in our ongoing list. So if you wondered what happened to that wonderful Tour you enjoyed in Egypt, or the play you saw in Athens - check it out!
Lighthearted Fun
Usually about the time the weather gets mild, we notice a hush come upon AncientWorlds, not dissimilar to that in the college library during the summer vacation. But there are still events ongoing: the most recent being Mesopotamia's Super Summer Crossword Puzzle, for those affianadoes whose brains haven't turned into a Slurpy. The bars certainly haven't slowed down their business: check out the Red Boar Tavern in Germania, the Kublai Kantina in the Orient, Rome's SPQR Caupona or (one of our favorites) The Inn of the Blue Macaw in the Americas.
Enjoy the last of your summer - things are gearing up with the cooler weather!
Best Homes of AncientWorlds?
Our first "Best Homes of AncientWorlds" Festival was held back in May, with multiple winners in multiple categories. But for those of us who are slow (like me!), perhaps you didn't realize that the "Best Homes" graphic on AW's Home Page takes you to them all? Just click on the "next" button, and do the same at each home you tour. You'll get ideas for your own home-site, plus enjoy working with the talented decorators among us.
Get involved in the ACTA
As you can see in the Contributors area to your left, each world news now only holds who contributed to what news page with plenty of room for guest reporters, special editorial writers and the like. Why not get involved by offering to help the world editors and have your name be included in the next issue? Contact one of the general editors or your world's editor to offer your assistance. We really want this "e-zine" to reflect what you want to read! The best way to do that is to volunteer to help write, and become a contributor yourself.
