Springfest 2005
Springfest 2005 has come and gone - you can explore our adventures on the
Main Springfest Thread. Events involved basket decorating -- three prizes were awarded for most aesthetic (Shanti Ashoka), most historically accurate (FireStorm Acoma), and most humorous (tied between Caileadair Etana and Lalita Ashoka).
Award graphics were designed by Lotus Horemheb. Our other contest was a fun romp up from Tierra del Fuego at the tip of South America to Nome, Alaska - using the indigenous llamas, alpacas, or guinea pigs as steeds. Bryce Yupanqui designed the awards, which went to: Quebrada Pacal, Bacchus Isocrates, and Faustina Cornelius (first, second and third place, respectively).
In other fun, Xochiquetzal Tupac created a museum for her photos of the Art of the Northwest, and Mangas Cochise sent people on an excursion around many of the North American native rock art sites, complete with explanations. There was a truncated chat on origin myths of the Americas.
Most inspired (?) of all was the First Annual Siesta Contest, held at the Square of the Feathered Serpent - not truly a contest, because the point was simply to sleep creatively.
Hoods News
Mangas started working on the Land of the Aurora Borealis, but it's not complete yet. Something about Springfest turning up.
Groups News
In Turtle Nations, StandswithFists Sequoyah talks about Inuit throat singing.
In Calakmul, the Maya group, Na Kuk Pech Balam is posting about several archaeological sites of interest. BlueStar Tupac continues her interesting posting in the Andes Indian group, Tahuantinsuyu, including about a virtual tour of Paloma.
Virtual Archaeology is very very active these days, with 3-D reconstructions of the Temple of Jupiter at Pompeii being just one of many highlights. Phenom Leonidas and Decadance Augustus have been very busy.

Our new and slowly-developing resource center for article writers in the Americas contains a listing of articles associated with the Hoods of Americas, and will eventually provide a listing of all Americas articles (as soon as I track the rest down), article writing incentives, and other ideas.
