AW Citizen in the Spotlight

Ai Jimmu - was a founding member of The Orient and has been involved in most activities here, including being a leader of our Haiku group, showing us her art during the Art of Ancientworlds exhibition, and writing us some wonderful articles about Japanese food. In addition, Ai is one of the most fun people at AW for just chatting...so send her a gram and say hi.

Spring Springfest is over and it's been mighty darned quiet around here this last week. Must mean everyone's suffering from PSM (that's Post Springfest Meltdown). Well, and it's no wonder. What a bash we had! Taking our turn later in the proceeding, though, The Orient decided to keep it's festival insanity to a minimum. In fact, we were downright laid back this time! Well, aside from sponsoring Climb Mount Everest, that is. I'm told it was hard, but gratifying. Our contestants answered trivia questions to move upward and all of them reached the top within seconds of each other. The big winner, though, was MacMorna Niafer of Celtia, who summited the mountain less than 30 seconds before his closest competitor. Whew! Nice job, Mac!

EverestFor those who weren't interested in honing their trivia skills with mountain climbing, we offered a nice, quiet day at The Teahouse of the April Moon. No exertion involved. Just good tea, good company, and teapots to decorate. People dropped in and out all day, sandwiching their visits between attempts to answer our Tea Trivia Quiz and enjoying our fun Do YOU know The Orient? quiz created by Shanti to celebrate The Orient's one year anniversary.

The Stone Stele Tour of articles was another event that earned much praise and enjoyed a remarkable amount of member contribution from our Article Writers of The Orient. 12 fascinating articles in all, on subjects ranging from Deities, great kings, monuments, ancient kingdoms and even food from every corner of Asia. Start your tour below and learn something new about Asia today!

Of course, our most popular event — and first place winner of the Best of Fest award in the Social Events category — was Memoirs of the Great Wall.

Best of Fest - Social
Ji Song Zhou, Aria Murasaka, and Lalita Ashoka have set up an archaeological dig at the base of the Great Wall of China. At press time, a number of interesting artifacts had been uncovered, and guest archaeological-writers from all over Ancientworlds are telling us the stories behind those magnificent finds. The Memoirs are still being written and we forsee them going on for some time to come. So, if you haven't read them, do! Or if you like to write and can imagine who that broken bowl from 200 BC might have belonged to...then come join the fun. We could be here all summer!!

Oriental Excellence

A number of citizens from The Orient were recognized with awards during the recent Springfest. As previously mentioned, Memoirs of the Great Wall brought home First Place in the Social event category of the Best of Fest Awards. But there are more! Sitewide Best Home

Results of the Best Homes of Ancientworlds Contest, Orient winners:
Tanaka Hatakeyama, took First Place gold;
Gina Nami Ashikaga, won Second Place silver;
Akiko Feng , was awarded Third Place bronze; and
Shanti Ashoka brought the Overall Best Home of Ancientworlds to The Orient.
Congratulations to all our Orient winners!
