Groups in the Spotlight
Alexander
Whether you loved or hated it, Oliver Stone’s movie, ALEXANDER, has ignited red-hot discussion at our in-house group on his life and impact, Alexander the Great

AW Citizen in the Spotlight
Kallistos
In Hellas, Kallistos Alexandros calls himself a "professional college student" for 27 years (with some bar-tending stints!) and worked as a college lecturer before taking early retirement. He lives "with my my wife, 3 indoor cats, and a fluctuating population of outdoor cats" near Chicago. A founder and strong force in Hellas’ academic life, Kallistos is a mine of information, but notes plaintively "Help! Help! I’m overeducated and can’t stop studying" – while we enjoy the benefits!

Featured Neighborhood
Manchuria
The Orient: Manchuria, located to the north of China, played an important role in Chinese and Mongolian history throughout the centuries. It was occupied by the Han, Jin and Ming dynasties, and considered the hereditary home to the Manchu dynasty. Visit Manchuria and relive some of it's turbulent history.

Dates and Themes Set for Springfest!

Yes, while you watch the snow falling outside, yet spring is coming – and the scribes of AncientWorlds have set the dates for Springfest, 2005! From Saturday, April 23, through May 1 we will celebrate a one-day one-world gala festival in all eight of our Ancient Worlds. The theme of this year’s celebrations is a tour of the Wonders of the Worlds!, based on the “Seven Wonders of the World” in ancient history - with a few unlisted wonders thrown in (Celtia, Germania, and The Americas weren’t on the original lists!) Stay tuned for more details – from what this editor has heard, it’s going to be quite an event!

Featuring our Role-Play Groups

If you're like me, you've been a bit bemused by our many "storyline" groups, where characters join in telling historical tales with intricate plots and settings. For the next edition of the ACTA, we hope to have our own reporter providing a focus on some of the exciting tales being told site-wide. Many people enjoy AW largely for their creative writing participation within historical frames set by RP groups, so we'll have some summaries for this important aspect of AW - in the next edition!

Calendar Central!

With so much coming up, Admin is working on a site-wide "Calendar Central" which will help us all keep up with where to go, and when. Our alpha version is up (thanks, Bryce!): stay tuned for more information! (In the meantime, if you have an event to celebrate, please contact your world scribes with the pertinent info!)

Groups For All Tastes?

Do you want to become more involved in the AncientWorlds community? Several groups are founded just to discuss our community and how best to share it. For scribes and demis, there is The Curia, where administrative matters are discussed and decided. The Crossroads is where AW Admin, scribes, and volunteers come together to discuss issues that affect us all. The Assembly focuses on group issues, group development, and more. If you want to see ALL the groups with all the interests at AncientWorlds, go to Group Hall and keep on scrolling . . . at seven groups per page, you’ll find we offer a total of 189 groups for everything from Georgian England to ancient Greece, social groups of all kinds, and role-play/writing groups covering 2,000 years of history. Whatever your interest is – you’ll find a group to share it!

Involvement in a group means not only you are accomplishing something for AW, whether historical, social, or literary: it means meeting new friends. Community is the backbone here: so don't be a wallflower, jump right in - the water's murky, but fine! If you don't believe me, just ask who knows the story of Heraklia and Studdeley, the Wonder-Llama!
